Invention X
This instrument is a hybrid inspired by African harps, primarily the kora and inanga, the African thumb piano, or mbira, and the sensibility of tuned rhythmic instruments mastered by the African cultures.
All parts of this instrument are amplified by a multitude of piezo pickups, allowing for rich rhythms from many parts of it. In addition to variously tuned thumb piano keys, it also uses several tuned springs to create unique sounds. The harp part is set up in the manner of the kora, with notes in the ascending scale alternating from right- to left-hand fingers, creating a feeling distinct, when playing, from Western harps.
I have mostly used this to build a groundwork of harmonized rhythms to accompany voice or another melody instrument.
